Drie Chapek's work entices the viewer with a
complicated harmony of color, shape, and
texture. She calls upon intuitive gestures and
natural images to convey the beauty in natural
life cycles. Ambiguities of space and scale and
the relationship between the micro and the
macro are important aspects of her work.

Her surfaces are poured on, built up and torn
down-aggressive textured layers in one
moment become gently coaxed brush strokes
the next. She creates a web of imagery drawn
from such varied sources as aquatic life, the
human body, fruit and landscape.

Drie's work comes from an honest personal
calling and appeals to those who also connect
with art on intimate and intuitive levels.

Drie received her BA from the University of
Kansas. She currently lives and works in
Seattle, Washington.
