About the artist

"Moving to Seattle from New York City in 1970 marked my journey to becoming a professional potter. I worked as a studio potter at Pottery Northwest from 1970-77 and participated in group shows and street shows. Then in 1977 I was chosen to become a CETA Artist in the City by the Seattle Arts Commission with a residency in the Seattle Schools. This opened the way to my "day job" as the School District's Arts Resource Specialist. I retired in 2000 having received the Governor's Arts Award, Howard S. Wright Award for Outstanding Support of the Arts, and the Seattle Repertory Theater's Outstanding Arts Educator Award in my career.

I am primarily a functional potter, exploring the natural world, making pieces that people can use and enjoy. My work is a result of many techniques including mold making, slip casting, throwing, handbuilding, low fire glazing, and using the computer to create original decals to explore new forms of surface decorations." - Judith Bushnell
